When you think of the word “remodeling” you probably imagine a never-ending nightmare of living in a construction zone. But not all remodeling projects have to last months and cost tens of thousands of dollars. If you’re itching to do a remodeling project that won’t take up a lot of time and money, consider fixing up your entry way. Over time, your front door begins to show its age. It may become less energy inefficient over time if a draft is coming through. Because your front door needs to be not only functional but attractive, it makes sense on many levels to invest in a new one.
Here are some tips to help you know if you need a new front door and what you should look for if you do decide to replace it.
Evaluate your door
First, evaluate your existing door.
Touch your door from the inside. If your door feels hot to the touch on a hot day or cold to the touch on a cold day, your existing door doesn’t have adequate insulation and it’s costing you money each month in heating and cooling costs.
Look closely for signs of wear and tear. For wood doors, look for rotting or warping. For steel doors, look for dings or rust. Finally, does the style of the door match the rest of your home?

Think about curb appeal. The front door is just a small part of your home’s exterior but it can make a big difference in your home’s appearance from the outside. Choose a door that is stylish and adds a bit of color.

Choose a door with a multi-point locking system that engages a series of locks for great peace-of-mind.

Since you’re already investing in a new front door, you might as well spruce up the rest of the entry way by upgrading the lighting on your porch and replacing your faded house numbers with new shiny ones.
